How customers plus talent equal strong growth

Companies choose many different metrics and tactics to gauge performance and prepare for growth. Using Growth Charts by Complete Growth International, you use just two: customer courtship and talent courtship. Why two? And how do they intersect to build strong growth?

We begin at the core of business: an exchange of goods or services. That’s the customer courtship. And those delivering the product or service — the talent — carry equal weight. These two features are key to generating profitable revenue, starting relationships and creating a bond that’s long-lasting.

A company can’t exist without customers. Customer courtship propels business growth. This happens when your organization gets noticed, creates a favorable impression and then secures a committed relationship with its customers. Engagement shifts from transactional to relational, and your company becomes part of your customer’s life.

Good talent courtship drives a company forward. In a production situation, the company is likely to have fewer safety incidences, lower absenteeism and heightened dedication. Talent will be knocking on your door to be part of this team, from manufacturing up through c-suite professionals.

In its February 2013 meta-analysis spanning 263 research studies and over 1.3 million employees, Gallup discovered that companies in the top quartile of employee engagement, as compared with those in the bottom-quartile, exhibited:

  • 21% higher productivity
  • 22% higher profitability
  • 41% higher quality
  • 48% fewer safety incidents
  • 37% reduced absenteeism

In contrast, Gallup reports the key contributing factors to poor employee engagement include:

  • Bad management
  • Lack of transparency
  • Not enough investment in continuous training
  • Wrong hiring practices
  • Overdependence on compensation and benefits

Considering just customers or just talent offers just part of the story. To move your organization forward, you need to consider both. At the intersection of good customer courtship and good talent courtship is good organizational growth. And that’s why we’ve built our system around these two key areas, with a wide variety of metrics underneath each.
